About
My name is Ronald Boom, I am a contemporary artist based in Amsterdam. In 2021 I graduated from Gerrit Rietveld Academy, where I received my Bachelor in Fine Arts in Expanded Painting.
My painting practice explores the possibilities within painting. I like to work in series around a concept with recognizable elements, such as equipment, foodstuffs or other objects. But ultimately I don't think figurative information is as important as the creation of the painting itself. To separate the idea from the form I use different tactics to circumvent my own conditioning, so that I can be open to coincidence and surprises.
In a cyclical process of transformation, the work unfolds gradually throughout the process. Some input remains or is broken through and reduced to color, layers of paint, contrasts, boundaries and transitions, ultimately creating a new (un)natural, layered, painterly and coloristic space.

The Graduation Show 2021 presents the work of around 170 graduates from all over the world. They have completed their four to five year Bachelor Fine Arts & Design at one of the fourteen departments. The exhibition marks both the end of their study and the start of a professional career.

In het Albert van Abbehuis tonen 5 Nederlandse kunstenaars ’The Capital of Caducity’, wat zich vrij vertaalt als ’de hoofdstad van de tijdelijkheid’. In deze samengestelde groepsexpositie zullen de kunstenaars vragen en suggesties opperen omtrent de era na de grote verschuiving. Dat er iets zal veranderen in het alledaagse staat vast, maar hoe zal dit tot uiting komen? De kunstenaars filosoferen over nieuwe realiteiten en reflecteren op de dystopische tijd. Wat komt er eigenlijk na de onherroepelijk vergankelijkheid en hoe transformeren we?

About the show: Pokémon, Hello Kitty, robots en samoerai: het zijn wereldberoemde iconen van de Japanse beeldcultuur. Japan staat bekend om eeuwenoude tradities en tegelijk is het hip and happening; met opvallende visuele uitingen en een uitzinnige fancultuur. Museum Volkenkunde presenteerde van april t/m oktober 2017 de grote tentoonstelling COOL JAPAN - Wereldwijde fascinatie in beeld. Deze tentoonstelling toonde de populariteit van hedendaags Japan en plaatste die in een historische context.
